Never Say Never To Crete

by Aishling

A few weeks ago, an instant message popped up on my computer screen at work. It was my friend/flatmate/colleague asking if I would be up for a trip to Crete ten days later. For £100. It was a package deal with Thomas Cook for six night in Crete. After two trips to this Greek island in my teenage years (standard partying holidays involving many Irish bars), I swore I would never return. But my inability to say no to a bargain won out. And I’m glad it did.

Third time is the charm.

This trip was a very different experience. As well as many hours spent lounging by the pool, or relaxing at the beach, we also explored further afield. We ventured to Knossos (the ruins of the oldest city in Europe), Agios Nikolaos (a large coastal town which contains a lake surrounded by cafes and restaurants) and Spinalonga island (a former leper colony).
